Results of social and economic urban and rural development in Tatarstan in 2003 and plans for 2004 were discussed at the meeting of the RT Government on February 2. The meeting was attended by RT President Mintimer Shaimiev, Prime-minister Rustam Minnikhanov, Chairman of the State Council Farid Mukhametshin, and heads of district, city and town administrations.

Aleksei Pakhomov, the RT Minister of Economy and Industry, talked on the main indexes of social-economic development of the republic in the last year. According to his returns, there was a industrial growth in Tatarstan in 2003. The volume of industrial products increased by 4.7 per cent and totaled Rbl252 bln, oil output made 29.2 mln tones, the volume of agricultural output raised by 5.1 per cent and accounted to Rbl43.6 bln. Chemical, petrochemical branches, mechanical engineering and fuel industry retained the leading positions.

According to Mr. Pakhomov, personal incomes increased by 13 per cent. Average monthly salary, according to preliminary results, increased by 18.1 per cent as compared to the last year and accounted to Rbl4.5 thousand.

Over 1.5 sq. m of housing were commissioned in 2003, it is 0.5 percent more than last year. The financing volume under the federal target programme of social and economic development of the republic till 2006 and made Rbl83 bln.
