"Kazan" Mountain Ski Sports Complex started out in Tatarstan

"Kazan" mountain ski resort has been opened on January 16. It is situated 35 kilometers from the capital of Tatarstan in a picturesque site - at the merge of the Sviyaga and Volga rivers.

The complex boasts of 9 slopes and trails of various degree of difficulty, 800 to 1800 meters in length. The complex will involve people in active leisure. For this purpose there is a ski station with ski hire rental, children's town, skating rink, chairlift, snowmaking. "Kazan" extras include a shop, cafe, restaurant, and apartments for two to eight persons (with bathrooms and saunas).

Moreover, this year will see a monorail sleigh road, new slopes, lifts, hotels and houses for a thousand places, berths for yachts and boats. Slopes of two hundred meters level difference, pools, fitness-centre, aquapark, covered skating rinks and tennis courts, baths and many other attractions are scheduled to gain momentum next year. The resort will work all year round.

At the opening of the complex, President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev said that in spite of all difficulties the republic keeps creating, changing the look of cities and villages. The society changes, and we satisfy needs of people practically in everything. There are large sports complexes under construction, and simultaneously mass sport develops. The main task of today is to make children move while young. It is an easy, but vital formula.

The new mountain ski complex is not just a sports construction, it is the complex programme of invigoration which is necessary for people.

President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev and RT Prime Minister Rustam Minnikhanov were among the first to go down the trails.
