23 December 2003, Tuesday
Despite difficult years of perestroika, we managed to preserve the republican aircraft construction plants and the overall military-industrial complex, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev said at the meeting for development of aircraft industry, held in the Kazan Kremlin on December 23 and attended by Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Boris Alyoshin.

Following the last decisions of the Russian Government and strict intent to create a united aircraft construction corporation comprising two constituents – military and civil, the realisation of the project has been started. The state has got investment instruments, balanced budget, and more ambitious spirit, and we are ready to take a crucial step – to create a united company meeting today’s requirements. Kazan and Ulyanovsk plants may become a core in the system of the aircraft construction corporation, particularly in development of civil aviation.
