The grand opening of the monument to Gavriil Derzhavin

The grand opening of the monument took place in the Lyadskoy garden, one of the favourite places of Kazan people. The monument is the reconstructed monument to the poet that had been made by sculptor Galberg. In XIX century it stood in the yard of Kazan Univesity, then in the Theatrical square of the city.

The ceremony started with a theatrical performance of young people in dresses of XVIII century. Mintimer Shaimiev greeted the attendees. “After long years of absence, Gavriil Derzhavin has come back to the homeland and occupied his deserved place,” said the Co-Chairman of teh United Russai party.

The authors of the reconstructed monument are sculptor M.Gerasimov and architect R.Nurgaleyeva.
