Mother’s Day

In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of 30 January 1998, our country celebrates Mother’s Day on last November Sunday.

The Republic of Tatarstan has got its own traditions of Mother’s Day’s celebration. One of them is President Mintimer Shaimiev’s yearly meeting with mothers courageous to give birth and bring up three and more children, mothers educating their children and being successful in work, mothers bringing up and educating not their own children but those being abandoned, mothers of soldiers died in military operations and hostilities in the territory of Russia.

This year, November 28 saw Mother’s Day festival where mothers educating, or having educated, five and more children take place in the theatre n.a. G.Kamal.

President M. Shaimiev traditionally greeted the attendees and emphasised in his speech that the state has to return to the women giving birth and bringing up children their high family status, to create “cult of mother” in the republic, where mothering would be worshiped. Care about a woman is to be of the most importance.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan Zilya Valeeva handed “Ana dany” medals (Mother’s Glory) to mothers with many children from Kazan and districts of Tatarstan.
