Gennady Seleznev in Kazan

October 24, Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Gennady Seleznev arrived in Kazan for a one-day visit.

Chairman of the RT State Council Farid Mukhametshin, heads of administrations of Kazan Kamil Iskhakov and Laishevsky district Alexander Timofeev met him tt the airport.

Now, deputies of the State Duma work in districts, there is a break in plenary sessions till November 18, - Gennady Seleznev said on the arrival at the airport. - I decided to take advantage of this pause to visit several subjects of the Federation.

In the first half of the day, in Laishevo - the native land of Gavriil Derzhavin, the poet, statesman of XVIII-XIX centuries, first Russian Minister of Justice - Gennady Seleznev and Farid Mukhametshin placed a wreath to the monument of the poet and visited a local lore museum.

In the afternoon, the speaker of the State Duma was in Kazan and met with President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev, who is on leave for the period of pre-election campaign. They discussed the questions concerning legislative work and social and economic development of regions and the Russian Federation as a whole. G.Seleznev toured over the Kremlin and visited new buildings of social sphere - Cultural and Intertainment Complex "Pyramid" and "Basket-hall". "It is always interesting to visit your republic, and see how Tatarstan and Kazan change", - said the speaker of the State Duma and marked that he is pleased to be syurprised at the changes which had occured in the centre of Kazan for the last two years from the moment of his last visit to the capital of the republic.

Gennady Seleznev met with deputies of the State Council of Tatarstan and Kazan city council of people's deputies, officials of the President's administration, Cabinet of Ministers and Parliament of the republic, journalists.

Chairman of the State Council of Tatarstan Farid Mukhametshin thanked Gennady Seleznev and all deputies of the State Duma for their work. He said that Duma already became history, for it adopted a number of significant laws on tax, political-administrative, pensionary, and land reforms. He also expressed gratitude for support of the federal target program on the Republic of Tatarstan, and as a token of gratitude presented an engraving with the view of the Kazan Kremlin to Gennady Seleznev.
