UNESCO’s General Conference about the 1000th Anniversary of Kazan

A letter of Mr. V. Kalamanov, the permanent representative of the Russian Federation to UNESCO, saying that the 32-nd session of UNESCO’s General Conference passed the resolution “1000-anniversary of the founding of the city of Kazan”, and that the anniversary of Kazan is inscribed in UNESCO’s Calendar of memorial dates, was received in the name of Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev.

As it is known, the General Conference is one of UNESCO’s bodies determining a direction and general line of UNESCO’s activity. It is held once in two years and considers key humanitarian problems of the modern society, including questions of conservation of the spiritual heritage of mankind. This year, the 32nd session of UNESCO’s General Conference was held from September 29 till October 17 in UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris; about three thousand people took part in its work, including Kazan Mayor Kamil Iskhakov.

In his letter, Mr. Kalamanov congratulates President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev on adopting the important documents and asks “to pass on people of Tatarstan the best regards of success and prosperity”.
