Jamahiriya wants to fly by Tatarstan planes

26 November 2002, Tuesday
On November 25, the delegation of Libya arrived in Tatarstan with a two-day visit. The same day in the Kazan Kremlin it was received by Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev. The Libyan party is interested in the purchase of Tatarstan-made aircraft: planes Tu-214 and helicopters.

During the years of reorganization the republic managed to support its enterprises: not only they have continued working, but improved. It concerns both civil enterprises and enterprises of the military-industrial complex. Certainly, this is mainly due to the fact that Tatarstan is an oil-producing republic and as against many other regions its economic potential is rather high.

These opportunities have allowed Tatarstan to design and master new products recently, the main of which, according to M.Shaimiev, is the plane Tu-214. In February a group of Kazan aviation experts was in Libya in structure of the Russian delegation. They discussed issues of purchase by the Libyan party the passenger planes Tu - 214, carried out demonstration flights. Simultaneously with the development of new machines the republican aviation enterprises continue to repair for the Russian army military planes Tu - 160 and Tu - 22. The products of the Kazan Helicopter Factory Mi-8 and Mi-17 are famous all over the world. The Libyan party might also be interested in light helicopter "Ansat".
