Vladimir Putin thanks Shaimiev for the implemention of the project to revive Bolgar and Sviyazhsk

On February 12, during his visit to Innopolis, Russian President Vladimir Putin had a meeting with Tatarstan State Counsellor Mintimer Shaimiev. Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the meeting.

Putin thanked Shaimiev for the implemention of a comprehensive project to revive the town-island of Sviyazhsk and the ancient city of Bolgar. The inscription of the Bolgar Historical and Archeological Complex (2014), and the Assumption Cathedral and the Monastery of the town-island of Sviyazhsk on the UNESCO World Heritage List have become the international recognition of results of work.

In his turn, Shaimiev expressed his gratitude to Putin for overall support of the project. He presented the Russian leader the 9th volume of the Book of Philanthropists, which includes the name of the President.

Putin also noted the contribution of Shaimiev to the implementation of an important project to establish the Bolgar Islamic Academy. The Russian President said that during a recent meeting with President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov, they discussed the possibility of sending clerics from Kyrgyzstan to study at the academy. Putin asked Minnikhanov and Shaimiev to arrange this work.
