Rustam Minnikhanov and Mintimer Shaimiev get acquainted with the progress of work on the reconstruction of the Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God
On March 5, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and State Counsellor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev got acquainted with the progress of work on the reconstruction of the Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.
The cathedral is being recreated pursuant to Decree No. UP-1066 "On the establishment of the Bolgar Islamic Academy and the reconstruction of the Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God." The memorial stone at the foundation of the sacred object was laid on July 21, 2016 with the participation of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
In the period from 2016 to 2021, the cathedral was recreated almost in its original form. The "cave temple" has also been restored (it was consecrated by Metropolitan Feofan on February 25, 2020).
During the inspection of the cathedral, Minnikhanov was informed that the work is progressing in accordance with the schedule.
Today, work is underway on the installation of cast-iron floors, the painting of icons for iconostases, the manufacture of church utensils and furniture. Also, work is in progress on the interior decor and temple painting (2,100 of 2,500 square meters have already been painted).
During the inspection, options for heating the reconstructed cathedral and full facilities were also discussed.
The grand opening of the cathedral is scheduled for July 21, 2021.
