On May 7, at the Jalil Tatar Opera and Ballet Theatre, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, the State Counselor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin took part in a solemn meeting dedicated to the 77th anniversary of the victory in WWII.
Veterans of the World War II became honored guests.
Minnikhanov emphasized that Victory Day is a sacred holiday, which we are indebted to our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers for.
“Over 700,000 of our countrymen defended their homeland. More than half of them did not come back home. Examples of the fearlessness and courage of the Tatarstan people will be inscribed in the chronicle of the World War II. Over 200,000 were awarded orders and medals for heroism and dedication at the front. As many as 353 soldiers became Heroes of the Soviet Union, and 51 front-line soldiers are Full Cavalier of the Order of Glory,” he said.
“In order to perpetuate the heroism of the people, I signed a decree on conferment of title of The Enterprise of Labour Valor in 1941-1945 to 14 enterprises of the republic. It is a well-deserved award and a cause for pride,” Tatarstan President stated.
The memory of those who died during the war was honored with a minute of silence.
Then Minnikhanov handed in the award documents to the relatives of the World War II veterans who did not live to this day.
At the solemn event, Tatarstan President also handed over a number of state awards of the Republic of Tatarstan.
