Mintimer Shaimiev takes part in presentation of Russian edition of the book “The historic urban landscape. Managing Heritage in an Urban Century”

On September 2 Tatarstan State Counsellor, Chairman of the Board of Guardians of the Regional Foundation “Revival” Mintimer Shaimiev took part in presentation of the Russian edition of Francesco Bandarin and Ron Van Oers’s book “The historic urban landscape. Managing Heritage in an urban Century” at the Hermitage-Kazan center.

“The historic urban landscape. Managing Heritage in an urban Century” offers a broad overview of research and development in urban conservation, examines its modern interpretations and critique and the way in which the classical theories changes to the conceptual approach of urban management.

In his welcoming speech Mintimer Shaimiev congratulated participants of the event on the Day of Knowledge and reminded that Bolgar was nominated to be included in the list of the World Heritage objects.

Tatarstan State Counsellor noted that it was important to translate the book of Francesco Bandarin and Ron Van Oers into the Russian language, because it contains a lot of information that should be studied.

He noted that issues of conservation of urban heritage and management of cultural heritage objects are very urgent for the republic. Therefore, the Regional Foundation for revival of Tatarstan historical and cultural monuments took over the task to translate and publish the book of Francesco Bandarin and Ron Van Oers into the Russian language. “This book will be used as guidelines for those who are interested in conservation of natural and cultural heritage in Russia and would like to join together their efforts on its preservation,” Mintimer Shaimiev summarized.

Francesco Bandarin thanked Mintimer Shaimiev for his support and noted that it was he who initiated the publication of the book in the Russian language.

One of the authors of the book, UNESCO Deputy Director General of  Francesco Bandarin, Special Adviser to UNESCO Director General  Munir Bushenaki, Director of the Kazan Kremlin reserve museum Zilya Valeeva, professors and students of Kazan universities took part in the event.
