Mintimer Shaimiev awarded “Federation Council. 20 Years” Medal

On May 21, Tatarstan State Counsellor Mintimer Shaimiev took part in the fifty-first meeting of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan of the fourth convocation.
At the beginning of the meeting the Chairman of Tatarstan State Council Farid Mukhametshin said that at the end of the last year and the beginning of this year the country celebrated the 20th anniversary of the upper chamber of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. And the issue of the commemorative Medal of Honour “Federation Council. 20 years” coincided with this date. Members of the Federation Council of Tatarstan of varied years were awarded this medal by decree of the Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia Federal Assembly Valentina Matviyenko.
Farid Mukhametshin awarded members of the Federation Council by order of Valentina Matviyenko. “It’s our people who have been carrying out this important mission to present the republic in the upper chamber of the Russian Parliament very actively, interestedly, and I say, they worked devotedly,” the Chairman of Tatarstan State Council noted.
The first to receive the award was the first Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev. “The first President of the republic made a historic contribution including development of the Russian parliamentary system. Being a member of the Constitutional Committee o the Russian Federation he actively defended interests of the republic when creating the Constitution of the Russian Federation. Mintimer Sharipovich is a person who was a senator by virtue of his position and then was elected publicly and honorably and weightily represented the republic in this chamber. All his speeches were heard and largely influenced decisions of the upper chamber of the country Parliament,” Farid Mukhametshin noted.
Mintimer Shaimiev expressed his gratitude for the award and congratulated all the participants of the council meeting on the Day of Official Adoption of Islam by Volga Bulgaria, which was set as a commemorative date on May 21 by Law of the Republic of Tatarstan adopted by the present convocation of the republic in autumn 2010.
Filza Khamidullin, Ekzam Gubaidullin and Alexey Pakhomov were also awarded medal “Federation Council. 20 Years”.
On May 14, the Kazan Expo International Exhibition Centre hosted a solemn reception marking the opening of the Year “Kazan – Cultural Capital of the Islamic World” and the holding of the XVII International Economic Forum “Russia-the Islamic World: KazanForum”.
Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Marat Khusnullin, Russian Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova, Director General of the Islamic World, Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik and other officials were among the honored guests of the evening.
On 26 April, during festive events dedicated to the Native Language Day and the 140th birthday of the great Tatar poet Gabdulla Tukay, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and the State Counselor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev laid flowers to the monument of the great Tatar poet.
On 17 March, speaking at a meeting of the State Council of the republic, where its Chairman Farid Mukhametshin declared his early termination of powers, Tatarstan State Counselor Mintimer Shaymiev said: “Mutual respect and deep understanding help to preserve high trust of our people.”
On 13 March the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and the State Counselor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev accompanied by the regional Mufti Kamil Samigullin took part in the XIV Iftar of the republic organized by the Spiritual Board of Muslims of Tatarstan, the administration of the Ak Bars Arena stadium and the national tourist complex Tugan Avylym (My Native Village) at the Kazan Expo Exhibition Center.
