Agreement on cooperation on preservation and development of UNESCO World Heritage sites signed for the first time in Russia

On July 15, during the International congress “Historical-cultural and spiritual heritage of Sviyazhsk”, an Agreement on cooperation was signed by Tatarstan Ministry of culture, Regional foundation for the revival of historical and cultural monuments, Ministry of culture of Karelia, and the Kizhi State historical-architectural and ethnographic museum.

The agreement was signed by Tatarstan Minister of Culture Airat Sibagatullin, CEO of the Revival Foundation Tatyana Larionova, Minister of culture of Karelia Elena Bogdanova, and Director of the Kizhi State historical-architectural and ethnographic museum Andrey Nelidov.

The Kizhi museum is the biggest open-air museum of history, architecture and ethnography in Russia, a unique cultural heritage site of Russian peoples. The Kizhi Pogost is on UNESCO World Heritage List since 1990.

The agreement is aimed at preservation and development of UNESCO World Heritage sites located in Tatarstan and Karelia. Joint cooperation is supposed to help solving problems connected with organization World Heritage sites management.

Tatarstan State Counsellor Mintimer Shaimiev, who took part in the event, said that the Kizhi museum has wide experience in the sphere of preservation of World Heritage sites, and the Kizhi Pogost was one of the first historical monuments in Russia included in the List.
