On November 23, at the Kazan Kremlin, Tatarstan State Counsellor, Chairman of the Board of trustees of the “Revival” Foundation Mintimer Shaimiev held a meeting on the implementation of the complex project “Cultural heritage: ancient Bolgar and island town of Sviyazhsk” in 2016.
Speaking about architectural and archeological works, Director of the institute of archeology named after A.Kh.Khalikov Airat Sitdikov said that at the beginning only 19 archeological items were found in Bolgar, and when 5 per cent of the area was explored 150, 000 items were found.
Speaking about Sviyazhsk, Airat Sitdikov noted that due to in-depth studies of the Assumption Cathedral and Trinity Church using modern methods and equipment another exploratory level was reached. Next year all works will be aimed at the preservation and strengthening of the sites, and exploration of the buffer zone of the island. Also, the research work will be focused on the creation of multi-authored monographs on the basis of the latest studies.
Deputy Minister of Culture of the republic Svetlana Persova presented the plan of reconstruction works at cultural heritage sites in Bolgar and Sviyazhsk noting that the Assumption Cathedral will become the main site next year.
