On February 19, at the Kazan Kremlin Tatarstan State Counsellor, Chairman of Board of Trustees of the Revival Foundation Mintimer Shaimiev had a meeting with Director of the State Hermitage Museum Mikhail Piotrovsky, who arrived in Kazan to take part in the opening of the exhibition “Ibn Fadlan’s journey: Volga route from Baghdad to Bolgar” at the Hermitage-Kazan Center.
Shaimiev thanked Piotrovsky for his constant attention paid to Tatarstan and support of the project “Cultural Heritage: ancient town of Bolgar and island-town of Sviyazhsk”.
According to him, the topic of the exhibition has found its reflection in the exposition of the Memorial sign in Bolgar built in honor of adoption of Islam by the Volga Bolgars in 922, particularly in its topographic map of Ibn Fadlan’s journey to Bolgar, mosaic panel depicting the solemn adoption of Islam in Bolgar, and book "Notes about Ahmad Ibn Fadlan’s journey to the Volga River" published in Tatar, Russian, English, German and Arabic languages with the assistance of the Revival Foundation.
Shaimiev also told Piatrovsky, who is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Revival Foundation, about the news in the Foundation’s life.
State Counsellor said that on November 4, 2015, the National Unity Day, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov signed a decree “On creation of the Bolgar Islamic Academy and reconstruction of the Cathedral of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God." He got Piatrovsky familiarized with a design of a building of the Bolgar Islamic Academy.
The forthcoming cultural projects of the State Hermitage in the Hermitage-Kazan Center were also discussed at the meeting.
Director of the Kazan Kremlin Museum-Reserve Zilya Valeeva took part in the meeting.
