On May 19, the reburial of Kazan khans Mahmud and Muhammed-Emin and two members of their families was held near the Kazan Kremlin. Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and State Counsellor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev took part in the event.
The reburial ceremony started near Qol Sharif mosque, and high-ranking Muslim leaders from all over Russia carried the relics to Syuyumbike Tower.
In his speech, Rustam Minnikhanov noted the importance of the event.
“We have paid special attention to the history of our nation and religion lately. We are attending a very important event today - the reburial of Kazan khans. This is our old wish and it came true today. I want to express my gratitude to archeologists, architects, and religious figures. It is a very important and sacred deed, thank you for taking part in it,” Rustam Minnikhanov said.
