On June 24, at his meeting in the Kazan Kremlin with President of Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Atambayev, who is on an official visit in Kazan, Tatarstan State Counsellor, Chairman of Board of Trustees of the Revival Regional Foundation Mintimer Shaimiev told his guest about the results of seven-year activities of the Foundation to preserve the historical and cultural heritage.
He also informed Atambayev about new projects implemented with the assistance of the Foundation, such as the construction of the Bolgar Islamic Academy and the reconstruction of the Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. Shaimiev stressed that the complex of the Bolgar Academy was built in a year and it will be opened in September this year. He also noted that the doors of the Academy are open to representatives of other countries wishing to obtain higher theological education based on the best traditions of the world Islamic education and teachings of Tatar theologians known to the Islamic world.
Atambayev showed great interest in Tatarstan's experience in preserving the historical heritage, noting that the problem of preserving historical and cultural monuments is also topical to Kyrgyz Republic. He accepted Shaimiev's invitation to visit the ancient city of Bolgar and the island town of Sviyazhsk and promised to come to Tatarstan again this autumn.
The meeting also touched upon issues of further cooperation between Tatarstan and Kyrgyzstan as part of the development of all-round ties between Russia and Kyrgyz Republic.
