On July 24, in the Kazan Kremlin, Tatarstan State Counsellor, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Regional Foundation for Revival of Historical and Cultural Monuments of the Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev had a meeting with Director of the ICOMOS International Conservation Centre in Xian (China), Professor Guo Zhan, who is one of the initiators of the Silk Road project.
Guo Zhan arrived in Tatarstan at the invitation of the World Cultural Heritage Resource Centre of the Kazan Federal University to give a consultation on the possibility of the inclusion of the northern corridors of the Great Silk Road that pass through Tatarstan and other regions of Russia in the UNESCO List.
The meeting focused on the possible participation and joint work in the transnational Silk Roads World Heritage Serial Nomination initiative.
Shaimiev thanked the guest for his visit to the republic. "We have gained some experience on material heritage recently. Since 2000 three sites located in Tatarstan have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. A lot of work has been done in this regard and now we have a professional team working with all the UNESCO institutes," he said.
During the meeting Guo Zhan shared his views, gave preliminary recommendations and advice on the possibilities of joining Tatarstan to the transnational Silk Roads World Heritage Serial Nomination initiative.
