Mintimer Shaimiev takes part in a ceremony of unveiling memorial plaques to Fikryat Tabeyev and Gumer Usmanov

On August 29, on the eve of the Day of the Republic, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, State Counsellor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev, Tatarstan Prime Minister Alexey Pesoshin, representatives of government agencies and public figures took part in a ceremony of unveiling memorial plaques to two outstanding statesmen Fikryat Tabeyev (1928-2015) and Gumer Usmanov (1932-2015) in Kazan. 

Speaking at the event, Minnikhanov stressed that Fikryat Tabeyev and Gumer Usmanov made a greate contribution to the development of Tatarstan and Russia.

"Today we are commemorating the names of our regional leaders - Fikrjat Tabeyev and Gumer Usmanov. They formed the basis that allows our republic to be competitive. Our success is the merit of these people. We should always remember the names of the figures who made a great contribution to the development of our republic and the country," he said.

In his turn Mintimer Shaimiev reminded that 2020 will mark 100 years since the formation of the Tatar ASSR. "This is a glorious page in the history of our republic. There were a lot of outstanding political and public figures in the history. There are no easy times, each period has its own challenges, but what Fikrjat Tabeyev and Gumer Usmanov did is worth a lot. They took on themselves all the hardships of political life and social system of that time and managed to defend the interests of the republic in difficult conditions of a strict planned system," he said.

Then Minnikhanov, Shaimiev and other officials laid flowers at the memorial plaques.
