Mintimer Shaimiev holds a meeting on the reconstruction of the Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God

On July 3, Tatarstan State Counsellor, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Revival Regional Foundation Mintimer Shaimiev held a working meeting at the site of the reconstruction of the Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God of the Kazan Monastery of the Mother of God.

Shaimiev and Metropolitan of Kazan and Tatarstan Feofan with the participation of the project executors got acquainted with the progress made in design and construction work at the site.

Director General of Evrostroyholding + Vladimir Kazilov informed the meeting that work on the moulded decoration of the Upper Temple has been completed and that work on its gold-coating has started. He continued that work is underway on making an iconostasis that will be installed in the Cave Temple of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. The recontruction of the preserved painting of the Cave Temple is also underway. The southern entrance to the cathedral has been finished and the facade icons have been installed, and work to landscape the cathedral has started, he went on to report. 

It was also noted at the meeting, that the Centre for Museum Designing has developed a scientific concept for a museum of the history of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God and the Mother of God Monastery as part of the project to reconstruct the cathedral.

Deputy Director for Research at Volga Region Archeology Andrey Starkov presented draft museum exhibits of the Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.

The meeting also discussed the museumification of a number of architectural and archaeological sites at the Kazan Monastery of the Mother of God. 

Shaimiev and Metropolitan Feofan supported the proposals made on interior design, museumification and improvement of the territory of the Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.

Shaimiev noted that these works are very important and they should enhance the majesty of the Cathedral.
