A monument to ballet dancer Rudolf Nuriev unveiled in Kazan

On November 7, in Kazan, in the park near the Musa Jalil Tatar State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Tatarstan State Counsellor Mintimer Shaimiev and other officials took part in the solemn unveiling of the first Russian monument to an outstanding ballet dancer, choreographer Rudolf Nuriev.

The author of the sculpture Zurab Tsereteli also attended the event.

 “We have the festival named after Nuriev, and now there is a monument to “the flying Tatar ”, which is installed near the opera theatre. All our ideas have been reflected in this sculpture,” Minnikhanov said.

Tatarstan President called the unveiling of the monument to Rudolf Nuriev in Kazan a “landmark event”. “I think this event is important not only for the republic. Rudolf Nuriev was an international figure. Such people are born once in a hundred years,” he stressed.
