Round table dated to 20 years of the Agreement on separation of powers between authorities of the Republic of Tatarstan and Russian Federation held at State Council

On February 14 Tatarstan State Counsellor Mintimer Shaimiev, Chairman of State Council Farid Mukhametshin, deputy of Russian State Duma Vasily Likhachev, Chairman of State Council Committee on economy, investments and entrepreneurship Marat Galeev, Director of Mardzhani Institute of history Rafail Khakimov, academician of RT Academy of Sciences Ildus Tagirov took part in a round table dated to 20 years of the Agreement between authorities of the Republic of Tatarstan and Russian Federation “On competences and mutual delegation of powers between government authorities of the Republic of Tatarstan and Russian Federation”.
Politicians and experts, participants of negotiations remembered those days today.
The first agreement was signed on February 15 1994. It was the result of long-term joint work of Tatarstan and Russian official delegations, contributed to effective solution of the whole range of important issues, and secured the certain status of Tatarstan within the federation.
The second agreement was signed in July 2007.
Speaking at the session, Farid Mukhametshin said that Boris Yeltsin and Mintimer Shaimiev played an important role in signing of the agreement.
“I believe it was a serious step for maintaining federalism in our state. It was a political will of authorities, and first Russian President Boris Yeltsin, who experience meaningful pressure those days. This agreement gave a powerful impetus to development of Russian democratic state, and became a national idea that united people living in Tatarstan.
Mintimer Shaimiev, in his turn, thanked all participants of negotiations saying that these people played a historical role in formation of federal status of the republic. He focused on key points of preparation of treaty documents, and noted that when the agreement was signed Tatarstan was in a single legal framework with Russia.
He continued that the agreement signed in July 2007 was an important step on the part of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who accepted ambitions of the republic seeking for its own development ways.
Summing up, Chairman of State Council Farid Mukhametshin thanked everyone for taking part in the discussion and their proposals.

On 20 January in the evening Russian President Vladimir Putin called Tatarstan State Counselor Mintimer Shaimiev and congratulated him with his birthday. During the conversation Vladimir Putin stated that he is happy to hear bright voice of Mintimer (Sharipovich) and wished him good health and all the best.
On 20 January, congratulating Tatarstan State Counselor Mintimer Shaimiev with his birthday, the Chairman of the Russian Government Mikhail Mishustin wrote in his telegramme: “Being a famous and political leader, you have made a substantial contribution into modern development of Tatarstan and have earned the deep respect and gratitude of residents of the republic.
On January 20, the First President of Tatarstan, State Counsellor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev celebrates its 89 birthday.
He received numerous congratulations from the state and regional leaders, public figures, figures in science, education and culture and residents of the country and Tatarstan.
On 16 October in the Kazan Kremlin Tatarstan State Counselor Mintimer Shaymiev, who is also the Chairman of the Trustees Council of the regional Revival Fund, had a meeting with the Director General of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky, who came to Kazan to take part in a ceremony of opening a new exposition “The Yusupovs. Luxury across the Centuries” at the Hermitage Kazan Exposition Center and which has been prepared especially for the 20th anniversary of the Hermitage’s first representational centre established in 2005 by celebrations of the Kazan Millennium.
