On December 13, Tatarstan delegation headed by State Counsellor, Chairman of the Board of trustees of “Revival” Regional Foundation Mintimer Shaimiev arrived in St. Petersburg to take part in the 4th international cultural forum dedicated to the 70th anniversary of UNESCO. Solemn opening of the forum was held in the General Staff Building of the State Hermitage Museum.
On December 12, Tatarstan delegation held a reception with participation of UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova, Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko, and Russian Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky and other officials. The guests shared their opinions about growing importance of UNESCO activity and new areas of cooperation between UNESCO and Russia.
Mintimer Shaimiev noted that Tatarstan is actively involved in preservation of cultural heritage. He thanked Russian Commission for UNESCO and Russian Ministry of culture that Russia reinstated membership in ICCROM, and Irina Bokova for her visits to Russia.
Irina Bokova, in her turn, thanked everyone that it was decided to dedicate the 4th international cultural forum to the 70th anniversary of UNESCO. She added that Russia is an important and long-term member of UNESCO.
