The enlarged meeting of the board of General Archival Administration under the Cabinet of Ministers of Tatarstan was held in Kazan. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov was satisfied with the work balance of the RT General Archival Administration in 2008.
Republic of Tatarstan ministry of culture reviewed results of 2008 activities. The meeting was attended by Prime-minister of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and deputy Prime-minister of Tatarstan – RT minister for culture Zilya Valeev. In their opinion, past year was one of the most successful for the cultural sphere, though due to financial situation at international markets, fourth quarter was quite difficult.

On January 8, 2009 President of the Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev lead first meeting of the Republic's commission on assuring economic growth of the Republic of Tatarstan during world financial crisis, which was founded by the decree of the Republic of Tatarstan President of December 26, 2008.
RT President Mintimer Shaimiev sent congratulation telegrams to the Patriarchal Locum Tenens Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad and the Archibishop Anastasiy of Kazan and Tatarstan on the Nativity of Christ!

The Russian KAMAZ-Master crew led by Firdaus Kabirov has become second in the Dakar 2009 Series & Raids. In the special second stage of the marathon Kabirov came second with only Dutchman Gérard De Rooy in front on January 4.
In 2008, RT poultry farmers achieved record levels. According to the RT Ministry of Agriculture and Foodstuffs, for the first time in the republic more than 106 thousand tons of poultry meat (145 per cent to the level of last year) was produced in all categories of farms.
Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto will open the 27th Shalyapin International Opera Festival which will be held in Kazan from 7 to 20 February.
