On August 15, in the island town of Sviyazhsk, Tatarstan State Counsellor, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Regional Revival Foundation Mintimer Shaimiev held a working meeting on progress made in the work on the establishment of the Museum of Wood Archeology.
Following the rescue operations aimed to protect the bank on the island, a rare complex of medieval wooden housing preserved in the "wet" cultural layer was excavated. Remains of buildings and streets dated back to the 16th-18th centuries with well preserved organics, cloth, clothes and wooden items were found. The scientific study of the unique archaeological wood gave a new idea of the town-building culture, construction traditions and technologies, the urban life of that period.
Based on the archaeological studies to preserve the unique exhibits, the concept of setting up the Museum of Wood Archeology, providing for the construction of a structure to protect the archaeological zone, was adopted in 2014. It was decided to establish the Museum of Wood Archeology in the new building on the bank of the Volga River.
