On August 17, at the Korston Entertainment Complex, Head of Tatmedia Regional press and mass media agency Airat Zaripov opened a plenary session of the seventh Forum of national and regional mass media of Russia held in Kazan on August 16-18. Over 200 delegates, editors and journalists from 19 regions of Russia, took part in the Forum.
The first President of Tatarstan, State Counsellor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev told the participants of the Forum about the current situation regarding the mass media of the republic.
According to the Federal Supervision Agency for Information Technologies and Communications, as many as 963 mass media are registered in Tatarstan, including 560 printed mass media, 193 e-periodicals, 105 radio channels and radio programmes, 91 TV channels and TV programmes, and 13 news agencies.
TV channel "TNV - Planet" has broadcast in Tatar language in the republic since 2012. Shaimiev emphasized that the density of periodicals per 1,000 residents of the republic is 302 copies, in Russia - 93 copies.
Chairman of Board of Trustees of the Revival Regional Foundation Shaimiev put much emphasis on the issues of preservation of the historical-cultural heritage. He reported on the establishment of the Kul Sharif mosque, the restoration of the Annunciation Cathedral in the Kazan Kremlin and the project “Cultural heritage: the ancient city of Bolgar and the island-town of Sviyazhsk”.
“Everything is being done taking into account spiritual needs of our multi-ethnic people. The Kazan Kremlin, the ancient city of Bolgar and the Dormition Cathedral and Monastery of the island town of Sviyazhsk were inscribed in UNESCO World Heritage List. We will go on this way. It fills the souls with joy,” he concluded.
