The RT State Council has adopted the new programme on preservation, study and development of the languages of the Republic of Tatarstan

January 29, 21st plenary session of the RT State Council passed in the third final reading the RT bill “On amendments and additions to the law of the Republic of Tatarstan “On the languages of the Republic of Tatarstan” and the bill “On ratification of the State programme of the republic of Tatarstan on preservation, study and development of the languages of the Republic of Tatarstan for 2004-2013”. RT President Mintimer Shaimiev partook in the work of the session.

As it was earlier reported, the Russian language is learnt by all pupils without exceptions. 5.6 thousand of teachers are engaged in its teaching. There are 148 Chuvash, Chuvash-Russian and Chuvash-Tatar schools attended by 3.7 thousand of children. 2.4 thousand of pupils go to Udmurt and Russian-Udmurt schools. There are 24 Mari and 5 Mordovian schools working in the republic. Over 100 national-cultural centres and national communities work in the republic. 1.8 thousand of children of 22 nationalities learn their languages and cultures of people of Tatarstan in 55 Sunday schools.

The major task of the law is creation of conditions for peoples of the republic for preservation and overall development of the native language.
