Mintimer Shaimiev supports Russian President’s initiative

By the end of the year, legislative acts introducing regional governors to be nominated by the head of the state will be prepared, Mintimer Shaimiev told the press conference following the enlarged meeting of the RF Government in Moscow on Monday.

“By the end of the year, legislative acts introducing regional governors to be nominated, most likely, by the head of the state will be prepared”, the President of Tatarstan said. “The details will be elaborated”, M. Shaimiev added.

M. Shaimiev and Mayor of Moscow Yury Luzhkov, interviewed following the enlarged meeting of the RF Government, supported the initiative, stated by President Putin on Monday.

“The last years saw a kind of weakening of regional leaders’ roles, not always justified, M. Shaimiev declared. Money tycoons come to power in a number of regions”.
