Tatarstan was one of Russia's first regions to start the transition to European standard.

As Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimev told Interfax, this transition will cover all essential spheres - from state system to economy.

In his opinion, Eurostandard and high technologies will be introduced in industry as well as in education, medicine and other spheres, including personnel training. "Standard compliance will contribute to the political development of the region, with strong traditions of democracy and multiparty system, proper legal base guided by global experience," said M.Shaimiev.

This means also the formation of politically active population and responsible government, ready for a constructive public dialogue. Furthermore, the transition to Eurostandard will promote an effective system of control and initiative. The focus on Eurostandard in economy, M.Shaimiev thinks, enables to create dynamically developed economy and modern industry of European level, to form efficient agriculture with equal competitive conditions.

In social sphere it means efficient social and legal protection of citizens. The republican government will pursue a special program on Eurostandard in demographic policy, ecology and education.

In conclusion, M.Shaimiev said that the formula of republic's sustainable development could be defined as "combination of economic growth, social justice and environmental protection".
