Address by the President of Tatarstan on the occassion of the 63rd anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War

8 May 2008, Thursday
The President addressed his greeting to the citizens of Tatarstan, war and home front veterans on the ocassion of the 63rd anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Many years have passed since that blessed May Day but the memory of our nation still has the recollection of the unfading deed of the generation of winners that saved the world from death. By means of incredible efforts and self-sacrifice our nation first stopped, then destroyed the monstrous death machine, and sent into oblivion cannibalic Hitler’s regime.

The multinational Republic of Tatarstan sent to war more than 7 hundred thousand of its daughters and sons, half of them did not return home.

Cherished memory for the fallen in battles, deep respect and permanent care about living veterans – those are the moral ideals, that our society is united and strengthened by.

We are grateful to our veterans for their vast life experience, everlasting optimism and deep love to their motherland and people. This and not other way – getting familiar with feat of arms of our ancestors – we can bring up healthy generation of Russia’s young citizens.

I wish you piece, good and prosperity, dear citizens of Tatarstan! Great compliments to you on the Great Victory Day!
