The grand event in honour of the 64th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War took place in Millennium Square on May 9 in Kazan. Mintimer Shaimiev, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, took part in the event.

May 9, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev laid flowers to the eternal flame and the monument to mourning mothers and widows in the Park of Victory.

The final stage of the Victory Day motor rally has been held in Kazan today. The motor rally was organized by DOSAAF (Army, Aviation and Navy Support NGO). A meeting has taken place before the final part of the rally.

The cost of a minimal food set above the poverty line in Russia in April 2009 increased 0.4 percent, totalling by the end of the month 2,213 roubles per capita a month, reports the Federal State Statistics Service.

May 5th, President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev visits Chistopolsky and Novosheshminsky municipal districts of Tatarstan. The working trip of the head of republic to Chistopolsky and Novosheshminsky districts is devoted to the issue of growing of crop 2009.

The Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan accepted the offer of UNESCO, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the International Astronomic Society, Kazan State University and the RT Academy of Sciences to host the International Conference 'Astronomy and world heritage: through time and continents'. The conference will be held from 19 to 24 August 2009 in Kazan.

A group of Tatarstan is taking part in a long sport sailing in the Mediterranean Sea from April 25 to May 9 held as part of preparation for international and Russian competitions. They have to cover the distance 1000 sea miles long.
