The Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan accepted the offer of UNESCO, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the International Astronomic Society, Kazan State University and the RT Academy of Sciences to host the International Conference 'Astronomy and world heritage: through time and continents'. The conference will be held from 19 to 24 August 2009 in Kazan.

A group of Tatarstan is taking part in a long sport sailing in the Mediterranean Sea from April 25 to May 9 held as part of preparation for international and Russian competitions. They have to cover the distance 1000 sea miles long.

The concept “Culture of Kazan” was presented at the 40th session of the Kazan City Duma on Wednesday April 29. Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Culture Zilya Valeyeva took part in the discussion.

The Tatarstans’ Industry and Economy Minister Ravil Zaripov has today met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the UK to Russia Anna Pringle.

The Universiade Village will be constructed in the area of Pobedy Avenue in Kazan, as it had been foreseen before. After organization of the Games-2013, the complex will be used as a student campus.

Kazan paid the tribute to the memory of the outstanding writer and philosopher Chingiz Aitmatov April 28. Russian Minister of Culture Alexander Avdeyev, Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Culture Zilya Valeyeva, the Kyrgyz Republic Minister of Culture and Information Sultan Rayev and other participants of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member-states’ ministers of culture took part in the special event at Tatar State Academy Theatre named after Kamal.

The off road Silk Road rally starting on 5th of September in Kazan will be presented in Berlin. Some 50 trucks and 100 motor cars will take part in the rally accompanied by 25 trucks and motor cars of maintenance staff, 5 planes and 7 helicopters. 20 Russian teams have applied for participation with 10 of them on KAMAZes, the press-service of the Mayor’s Office Naberezhnye Chelny reports.

The 14th international specialized exhibition VolgaStroiExpo opened in Kazan on April 27 and will last through April 30. Over 400 companies from Tatarstan, 33 Russian cities and 13 other countries are taking part in the exhibition.

For the first time the part of Sabantui events will be funded from the federal budget. This year, the federal Sabantui will take place in Ulyanovsk in early July.
