The morning of the second day of the visit of the Kazakhstan delegation, led by President Nursultan Nazarbaev, June 30, was taken up with visiting houses constructed under the programme of dilapidated housing liquidation. Later on, presidents Nazarbaev and Shaimiev took part in the opening of the International scientific-practical conference “Euroasian ideas in Le Gumilev’s scientific heritage” in the Mirage hotel.

On June 29, Nursultan Nazarbaev, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, arrived in Kazan. President Mintimer Shaimiev met the eminent guest in the international airport of the Tatarstan capital. On June 30, Nursultan Nazarbaev takes part in the International scientific conference “Euroasian ideas in Lev Gumilev’s scientific heritage”, to be held in the conference hall of the five-star-hotel “Mirage” and bring together over 170 scientists and social leaders.

Official opening of the Tatar youth forum, the first major meeting of young representatives of the Tatar nation from the different countries, took place on June 25 at the S.Saidash State Grand Concert Hall. RT State Council Chairman Farid Mukhametshin greeted the delegates of forum on behalf of President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev. It is remarkable that the forum of the Tatar youth is being held in Kazan, the city with the richest 1000-year history and original national heritage.

June 19 saw the holiday of Sabantui held in the Birch grove, Privolzhsky district, Kazan. The festival was visited by Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev, Russian Education and Science Minister Andrei Fursenko, Head of the Russian Federal Agency for constriction and housing Vladimir Averchenko, RT Prime-minister Rustam Minnikhanov, heads of republican ministries and organizations, foreign guests.

On June 16, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Finland to Russia Rene Nyberg at the Kazan Kremlin. Present at the meeting were: director general of Metso Automation and chairman of the Tatar community in Finland. The interlocutors discussed issues of the development of bilateral cooperation.

On June 10, RT President Mintimer Shaimiev visited construction sites of the Kazan underground. At the places where there soon will be underground stations, RT President and leadership of Kazmetrostroy, representatives of the city administration, and builders exchanged opinions on the current state and problems of the building process and discussed prospects of one of the most important republican objects under construction.

On June 8, at the Kazan Kremlin, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev met with Colonel-General Mansur Valiyev, first Deputy Head of the Russian Federal Frontier Service. The RT President told the guest about Tatarstan and the coming celebration of the 1000th anniversary of Kazan. They interlocutors touched upon the reforms of the Frontier Service that started a year ago after it had been attached to the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB).

On June 7, Chairman of the Russian Accounts Chamber Sergey Stepashin met with deputies of the RT State Council. S. Stepashin proposed to carry out a number of verifications together with the RT Accounts Chamber, i.e. to make analysis of how the Federal targeted programme “Preserving and development of the historical centre of Kazan” is being realised at the republican and federal levels. RT President Mintimer Shaimiev, who attended the meeting, supported Mr. Stepashin’s proposal and emphasised that the republic is open for interaction.

A two-day visit of the official delegation of the Republic of Buryatia headed by President Leonid Potapov started on June 1. Among the aims of the visit to Tatarstan there is not only broader economic cooperation between the two republics, but also studying of approaches to carrying out an administrative reform in Tatarstan.
