Results of the election campaign were discussed at the conference of the regional branch of the United Russia political party on December 13. Speaking at the conference, the secretary of the political council of United Russia regional branch, Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan, F.Mukhanetshin greeted the participants of the conference on behalf of M.Shaimiev, the Co-chairman of the higher council of the party – President of the Republic of Tatarstan.

“The last decade has shown that the fundamental law of the country adopted in 1993 is an efficient legal document ensuring the consecutive building of a democratic Russian state,” President of Tatarstan writes in the telegramme to V.V.Putin. M.Shaimiev expressed confidence in the fact that “the power and greatness of the Russian Federation is in preservation of adherence to ideals of a genuine democracy, in unity and mutual respect of all the peoples of our country”.

On December 8, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan sent congratulations on the victory in regional elections to Moscow Mayor Yu.Luzhkov, governors Yu.Gromov (the Moscow oblast), V.Pozgalev (the Vologodskaya oblast), A.Lisitsin (the Yaroslavl oblast), and heds of administrations of the Novosibirsk, Orenburg, and Tambov oblasts.

The co-chairman of the Higher Council of the United Russia party, Mintimer Shiamiev, took part in the voting in the 75th constituency situated in school #4 of the Vakhitovsky district of Kazan on October 7. Traditionally, Mintimer Shaimiev came to the polling station with his spouse. At the school a woman in year came up to them. “These are requests of ours, veterans of the home front, she said. I hope they will be fulfilled.”

The festive concert dedicated to the International day of disabled persons was held on December 4 in Kazan. The festivity in the circus brought together some two thousand persons with disabilities.
On behalf of RT President Mintimer Shaimiev the attendees were greeted by the secretary of the political council of Tatarstan regional branch of the “United Russia” political party, the chairman of the RT State Council, Farid Mukhametshin.
As of today, there are about 62000 disabled persons residing in Kazan, of them 4088 are children, 689 are wheelchaired.

The grand opening of the monument to the Russian poet Gavriil Derzhavin was held on December 3 in the Lyadskoy garden situated in the historical part of the city. The monument is the reconstructed monument to the poet that had been made by sculptor Galberg. It first was in the yard of Kazan Univesity, then in the Theatrical square of the city.

The Forum of Youth Organisations took place on the big stage of the “Basket-hall” on December 2, 2003. The All-Russian “Youth Unity” social organisation was one of the initiators of the Forum.
The forum brought together some seven thousand representatives of the youth organisations, students and pupils of the republic.
The gathering was greeted by the deputy of the RF State Duma, leader of the All-Russian “Youth Unity” social organisation, Alexandra Buratayeva. Addressing to the attendees, the Co-Chairman of the Higher Council of the United Russia party, President of the Republic of Tatarstan M.Shaimiev said that the forum of the youth organisations is an opportunity for the open dialogue about the present and future.

A grand evening devoted to summing up of the results of the work of the World Congress of Tatars in 2003 took place in ‘Pyramid” cultural and entertainment centre on October 1. The event was attended by the Co-Chairman of the All-Russian “United Russia” party, President of the Republic of Tatarstan, M.Shaimiev, State Council deputies, members of the republican government. Among the guests there were members of the WCT Executive Council, heads of Tatar national organisations of Russian regions and foreign countries, representatives of Tatar community.

In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of 30 January 1998, our country celebrates Mother’s Day on last November Sunday. The Republic of Tatarstan has got its own traditions of Mother’s Day’s celebration. One of them is President Mintimer Shaimiev’s yearly meeting with mothers courageous to give birth and bring up three and more children, mothers educating their children and being successful in work, mothers bringing up and educating not their own children but those being abandoned, mothers of soldiers died in military operations and hostilities in the territory of Russia.

Resignation of Director-President of JSC “Kazanorgsintez” N. Yusupov was on the agenda at the sitting of JSC “Kazanorgsintez” Supervisory Council on 28 November. Nail Habibovich Yusupov has been the head of one of the leading enterprises of Tatarstan petrochemical branch since 1986 and is highly respected by right. Speaking at the conference, the Co-Chairman of the Higher Council of the United Russia party, Mintimer Shaimiev, noted remarkable achievements of N.Yusupov and thanked him for his many-years work for the welfare of the republic.
