The grand opening of the monument to the Russian poet Gavriil Derzhavin was held on December 3 in the Lyadskoy garden situated in the historical part of the city. The monument is the reconstructed monument to the poet that had been made by sculptor Galberg. It first was in the yard of Kazan Univesity, then in the Theatrical square of the city.

The Forum of Youth Organisations took place on the big stage of the “Basket-hall” on December 2, 2003. The All-Russian “Youth Unity” social organisation was one of the initiators of the Forum.
The forum brought together some seven thousand representatives of the youth organisations, students and pupils of the republic.
The gathering was greeted by the deputy of the RF State Duma, leader of the All-Russian “Youth Unity” social organisation, Alexandra Buratayeva. Addressing to the attendees, the Co-Chairman of the Higher Council of the United Russia party, President of the Republic of Tatarstan M.Shaimiev said that the forum of the youth organisations is an opportunity for the open dialogue about the present and future.

A grand evening devoted to summing up of the results of the work of the World Congress of Tatars in 2003 took place in ‘Pyramid” cultural and entertainment centre on October 1. The event was attended by the Co-Chairman of the All-Russian “United Russia” party, President of the Republic of Tatarstan, M.Shaimiev, State Council deputies, members of the republican government. Among the guests there were members of the WCT Executive Council, heads of Tatar national organisations of Russian regions and foreign countries, representatives of Tatar community.

In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of 30 January 1998, our country celebrates Mother’s Day on last November Sunday. The Republic of Tatarstan has got its own traditions of Mother’s Day’s celebration. One of them is President Mintimer Shaimiev’s yearly meeting with mothers courageous to give birth and bring up three and more children, mothers educating their children and being successful in work, mothers bringing up and educating not their own children but those being abandoned, mothers of soldiers died in military operations and hostilities in the territory of Russia.

Resignation of Director-President of JSC “Kazanorgsintez” N. Yusupov was on the agenda at the sitting of JSC “Kazanorgsintez” Supervisory Council on 28 November. Nail Habibovich Yusupov has been the head of one of the leading enterprises of Tatarstan petrochemical branch since 1986 and is highly respected by right. Speaking at the conference, the Co-Chairman of the Higher Council of the United Russia party, Mintimer Shaimiev, noted remarkable achievements of N.Yusupov and thanked him for his many-years work for the welfare of the republic.

The Co-Chairman of the Higher Council of the United Russia party, Mintimer Shaimiev, and the candidate running for deputy of the RF State Duma in Almetyevsk constituency № 23, Marat Magdeyev, held a pre-election meeting with electorate of Almetyevsk, Bugulma, Leninogorsk, Bavly, Sarmanovo, Yutazin districts in the settlement of Jalil on November 25.

On November 25 at the end of the sacred month of Ramadan, Muslims are celebrating Uraza-Bairam – one of the greatest Islamic holidays. Uraza-Bairam is farewell to the blessed days of Ramadan, summarising the results of the passed month when Muslims were given an opportunity to purify the mind, to be merciful, and devout.

It must have been difficult for Eduard Shevarnadze to resign. But he was right to, country should not have been brought to civil war, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev being on pre-election leave told journalists on November 24. We would wish Georgia and Russia remained friends, because it is a very important region to us in terms of strategy.

November 20 saw the private meeting of Chairman of board RAO “UES of Russia” Anatolii Chubais and the RT President, Mintimer Shaimiev, who is on leave for the pre-election campaign period. The main power engineering specialist of the country informed the journalists of the fact that during the last 12 years the advice of the head of the RT had often helped him make well-weighted decisions.
