June 10 saw the International Investment Conference opening in the Korston Complex in Kazan. The President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Mintimer Shaimiev, delivered a welcome speech at the plenary meeting of the conference that is held with the support of the Islamic Development Bank.

"Tatarstan is becoming an integral part of the globalizing world. It is important that in this process the republic is equally competing with other big market participants," Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev commented on signing the agreement on creation of the joint venture of Sollers (the new name of Severstal-Auto) and the Italian automobile giant Fiat Group. The signing ceremony took place on June 7 as part of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum.

Prospects of cooperation between the Republic of Tatarstan and the World Bank were in the highlight at the business lunch of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Managing Director of the World Bank, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on June 7. The meeting took place in the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Energy, oil-refining and engineering industries can become the basis of mutually beneficial cooperation between Tatarstan and Colombia, one of the leading Latin American countries. This issue was in the focus at the meeting of Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev and Colombian Vice-president Francisco Santos Calderon on June 6 in St. Petersburg where the head of Tatarstan is taking part in the XII St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
