President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev considers that the post of president must be retained. As M.Shaimiev stated in interview to "Interfax - Povolzhye agency he regards unacceptable for Tatarstan the approach in resolving issues of statehood similar to that exposed by deputies of parliament of Northern Ossetia, who abolished the post of president of republic.

Today, the meeting between RT President Mintimer Shaimiev and Chairman of Executive Committee and Executive Secretary of the CIS Vladimir Rushailo took place at the Kazan Kremlin.
Chairman of RT State Council Farid Mukhametshin, Chief of RT President Administration Jury Kamaltynov, RT Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of culture Zilya Valeyeva, RT Minister of Internal Affairs Asgat Safarov, Vice-President of Executive committee of the CIS Valery Kirichenko took part in the event. Participants of the meeting discussed issues of preparation for forthcoming Summit of heads of the CIS countries and to the session of RF State Council which will take place in Kazan in August.

Today the first session of Guardians Board of State Housing Fund under RT President was held at the Kazan Kremlin. On The priority directions of Fund's activity have been determined and intention on construction of 6 thousand apartments during year 2005 under social mortgage was confirmed. To accomplish he Fund is going to collect 5 billion 100 million roubles from different sources.
Opening the session, Chairman of Board of guardians - President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev thanked everyone whohad carried out the program of delapidated habitation which came to the end in December, 2004 and highly estimated a role of the program which allowed, in particular, Kazan to approach by thousand-year anniversary updated and got prettier.

The letter of thanks has arrived addressed to President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev on behalf of co-chairmen of Organizing Committee of the Russian competition "Manager of year - president of the Free economic society of Russia, professor G.H. Popov and President of International academy of management, academician of the Russian academy of sciences S.A.Sitaryana in which deep gratitude is expressed to M. Shaimiev for assistance in organizing the competition in the Republic of Tatarstan and for personal attention to this important action, RT President press centre informs.

Traditional bell ringing opened the 13th interregional festival of Russian folklore “Karavon” in the village of Russkoe Nikolskoe, Laishevsky district, Tatarstan on May 21. On May 19, RT President Mintimer Shaimiev met with Chairman of the RT Muslims’ Religious Board gusman khazrat Iskhakov. It was the first meeting of Mintimer Shaimiev and the leader of Tatarstan’s Muslims since he had been appointed as President by the RT State Council. The interlocutors focused on the opening of the Kul-Sharif Mosque to take place on June 24.

“Impressions are positively strained. There is still a lot of work to be done, though everyone works according to the schedule, with deviations no more than a week”, President of Tatarstan commented on what he saw during visiting at once several sites that will embellish Kazan by its 1000th anniversary. Apart from the International cultural-entertainment hippodrome complex, the President also observed the City Hall and the Musa Jalil Tatar Opera and Ballet Theatre.

The Volga branch of the Russian oncology research centre n.a. N. Blokhin will be founded in Kazan basing on the Clinical oncology dispensary under the RT Ministry of Health this year. Such decision was made during the meeting of President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev and Director of the centre Mikhail Davydov.

On May 9, President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev took part in wreath and flowers laying ceremony to the Eternal fire and the monument to mothers and widows of perished soldiers opened in the Victory park of Kazan.

One of the culmination moments of day time celebratory actions on May 9 was a military parade in the main square of Kazan - Freedom square where thousand veterans of the Great Patriotic War, soldiers of Kazan garrison, residents and guests of the city got together.
