On May 19, RT President Mintimer Shaimiev met with Chairman of the RT Muslims’ Religious Board gusman khazrat Iskhakov. It was the first meeting of Mintimer Shaimiev and the leader of Tatarstan’s Muslims since he had been appointed as President by the RT State Council. The interlocutors focused on the opening of the Kul-Sharif Mosque to take place on June 24.

“Impressions are positively strained. There is still a lot of work to be done, though everyone works according to the schedule, with deviations no more than a week”, President of Tatarstan commented on what he saw during visiting at once several sites that will embellish Kazan by its 1000th anniversary. Apart from the International cultural-entertainment hippodrome complex, the President also observed the City Hall and the Musa Jalil Tatar Opera and Ballet Theatre.

The Volga branch of the Russian oncology research centre n.a. N. Blokhin will be founded in Kazan basing on the Clinical oncology dispensary under the RT Ministry of Health this year. Such decision was made during the meeting of President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev and Director of the centre Mikhail Davydov.

On May 9, President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev took part in wreath and flowers laying ceremony to the Eternal fire and the monument to mothers and widows of perished soldiers opened in the Victory park of Kazan.

One of the culmination moments of day time celebratory actions on May 9 was a military parade in the main square of Kazan - Freedom square where thousand veterans of the Great Patriotic War, soldiers of Kazan garrison, residents and guests of the city got together.

On May 6, President of the Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev signed Decrees on appointment of heads of some republican executive authorities.

President Shaimiev presented the first medals “For heroic labour” to Great Patriotic War veterans – activists of the republican veterans’ social organisations during the festive meeting at the Kazan Kremlin.

On May 4, President of the Republic of Tatarstan M. Shaimiev met with Great Patriotic War veterans and activists of the republican veteran movement. Mintimer Shaimiev presented medals “For heroic labour” and gratifying letters of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan to activists of the veteran movement of Tatarstan.

To strike the keynote of agriculture all over Russia is within Tatarstan’s reach. This is the conclusion to be drawn from the results of Mintimer Shaimiev’s visit to the Spassky and Alekseevsky districts of the republic.

On May 3, President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev is on a business trip in districts of the republic. The aim of the visit is to observe how the sowing campaign goes on. He is to visit the Spassky district first, then the Alekseevsky district.
