The Kazan international airport in 2010 could service a record many passengers, over 1 million people. The airport’s general director Alexei Starostin told it a briefing at the Cabinet of Ministers.

According to Starostin, the airport’s 2010 business plan provides for an increase in passenger traffic of 13.7 percent, to total 768 thousand passengers. The results of the first quarter of 2010 have however exceed the expectations. Passenger traffic versus the same period last year grew 54.2 percent. “If the trend persists, we could by the end of the year for the first time cross the mark of 1 million passengers,” Alexei Starostin said.

The airport’s revenue in the first quarter of 2010 increased 32 percent, totalling 126 million roubles versus 96 million in the first 3 months of 2009. The business plan stipulates an annual revenue of 580 million roubles, but, the general director said, the current trends raise hopes of the estimates to be substantially exceeded at the year’s end.
