Today agency " Interfax - Volga region " published interview with President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev. Making comments in it regarding statements concerning attempts of revising results of the Second world war and a role of the Soviet Union in this war and victory, M.Shaimiev asked those who speak about it, deeply to reflect.
Head of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev appealed to remember that Pope John Paul II decided to return the respected icon of Kazan Mother of God from Vatican to Russia. In his interview to IA “Interfax-Volga region" M. Shaimiev noted that during the preparation stage of returning the icon that was kept in the Pontiff’s apartments the delegation of Tatarstan was received in Vatican. Last year was filled by various events, presidential elections of the Russian Federation and deputies of the State Council of Republic Tatarstan became a significant factor of strengthening stability in society. Unfortunately, outgoing year has been marked also by tragic events. People of Tatarstan together with all country empathized victims of Beslan tragedy and other acts of terrorism. The main thing, in our opinion is a skill to draw correct conclusions from such sort of situations so that they never henceforth repeated.
Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev considers the reform of power system of the country and adoption of the law on compensation payments to be central events of the last year.
