May 17, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev met with the evaluation commission of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) headed by FISU executive committee vice-president Stefan Berg (Sweden).

Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev met with the delegation of Shandong province, China at Kazan Kremlin on May 16. The delegation is headed by Vice-Governor of the province Wang Renyuan.

May 9 saw the grand event to mark the 63rd anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War taking place in Millennium Square. Over a thousand veterans attended the event. President Mintimer Shaimiev addressed greetings on behalf of the Tatarstan State Council and Government and on his on behalf to the war veterans, workers of the home front and servicemen of the Kazan garrison.

May 9, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev laid flowers to the eternal flame and the monument to mourning mothers and widows in the Park of Victory.

Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev took part it the opening of the first specialized apartment building for veterans of the Great Patriotic War in the capital of Tatarstan. The apartment building will be the permanent residence of lonely war veterans.

May 7, Dmitry Medvedev officially came into office of President of the Russian Federation. The Inauguration ceremony was held in the Moscow Kremlin. Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev attended the ceremony.
