May 9 saw the grand event to mark the 63rd anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War taking place in Millennium Square. Over a thousand veterans attended the event. President Mintimer Shaimiev addressed greetings on behalf of the Tatarstan State Council and Government and on his on behalf to the war veterans, workers of the home front and servicemen of the Kazan garrison.

Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev took part it the opening of the first specialized apartment building for veterans of the Great Patriotic War in the capital of Tatarstan. The apartment building will be the permanent residence of lonely war veterans.

Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev has given keys from new cars to 30 invalids of WWII. This event is dated to 63rd anniversary of the victory. The Chairman of RT State Council Farid Moukhametshin, Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin, RT Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Protection Ayrat Shafigullin, RT Minister of Health Public Protection Ayrat Farrahov have taken part in the ceremony on the square in front of National Cultural Center Kazan.
May 4, a concert of Mariinsky theater symphonic orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev was held at the Big State Concert Hall named after Saidashev in Kazan. The symphonic orchestra and choruses of Kazan state conservatoire and the secondary school at the conservatoire performed within the framework of the VII Easter Festival.
