The ceremony of bestowing UNESCO awards was held at Tatar State Humanities-Pedagogical University (TSHPU) on March 19. TSHPU Rector, Professor Radif Zamaletdinov received the international award – the golden medal ‘Mercy’.
The President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Mintimer Shaimiev, attended the first session of the 4th Assembly of the Tatarstan State Council, which opened early on March 19, 2009. In the course of the session, Mr. Farid Mukhametshin was elected Chairman of the 4th Assembly of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan. Mr. Aleksander Gusev and Ms. Rimma Ratnikova were elected deputy heads of the RT State Council, Ms. Lilia Mavrina was elected secretary for the RT parliament.

The international nature nature-conservative event 'March for Parks - 2009' will start in Tatarstan in the second half of April. The event has been held in our republic since 1995 and includes celebrations dedicated to the Earth Day.
Verdi's Aida will be presented in Portugal in April. The performances will start in Lisbon on April 2 at the Coliseu dos Recreios and finish ten days later in Portimao at the Arena Auditorio. The visitors will get a chance to listen to Oksana Kramareva, Ahmed Agadi, Dina Khamzina, Mikhail Kazakov and Yury Nechaev. The conductor is Renat Salavatov.
A group of experts of experts of the Japan-based LCA-J company were shown a presentation of the economic potential of the republic at the RT Economy Ministry where they were also told about some infrastructural projects.
The cheapest basket of consumer goods is in Tatarstan, RT Deputy Prime-minister - Minister of Agriculture Marat Akhmetov said on March 17 at the RT Cabinet of Ministers.
In terms of low prices of foodstuff the republic is third among the Russian regions.
The Tatarstan Industry and Trade Ministry will on Tuesday host a meeting between the ministry’s heads and the Embassy of Canada in Russia official Steven Millar, said the ministry’s press service.
Kamaz and Sollers are to be provided 5 billion roubles in governmental loan guarantees, said Monday the first deputy premier Igor Shuvalov at a meeting with the president of Russia Dmitry Medvedev.

March 17, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev took part in the meeting of the Organizing Committee for the 27th World Summer Universiade 2013 to be held in Kazan.
The open tournament in rock climbing finished in Cheboksary city on March 16. Tatarstan team won the first place in the team rating. They will participate in Russian championship in Moscow and student championship in Yekateinburg.
