On September 17, there was a telephone conversation between President of the Republic of Turkey Ahmet Necdet Sezer and President of the Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev, who is on vacations in Antalya. In the telephone conversation the President of Turkey marked dynamic development of the cooperation between the republics, successful work of Turkish companies in Tatarstan.

According to the Press centre of the RT President, on September 15, President of the Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev and his spouse left for the Republic of Turkey on vacation.

The tragedy in Beslan that took away lives of hundreds of innocent people called forth convening of the enlarged meeting of the RT Security Council on September 10 in the Kazan Kremlin. Led by Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev, the participants focused on state of affairs and tasks of increasing efficiency of counter-terrorist security in the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan.

President of the Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev took over the control of the situation about Nurulla mosque. Before the session of the RT State Council on September 9, he talked with the parish of the mosque, representatives of the Tatar social centre, Milli Medzhlis, Union of Moslem women, city social organisations, who organised a strike picket in the square ahead of the Parliament.

On September 4, President of the Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev sent a telegram of condolence to President of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania following the tragic events in the town of Beslan.
“The tragedy in the Ossetian town of Beslan has deeply shocked citizens of the Republic of Tatarstan. We attribute this atrocity, the victims of which are innocent children, as an appaling act of barbarism that cannot be justified by anything.

Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev took part in the celebrations, organised on the occasion of the Day of Knowledge by Kazan Technological University in the Basket Hall. It was for the first time that the only institute of higher education organised such grandiose festivities and it was attended by top officials of the republic. Meanwhile, it is one of the best universities of the republic and Russia and deserves by right this attention.

Today, higher educational institutions have to prepare specialists of tomorrow, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev said at the enlarged meeting of the academic council of Kazan State Technological University (KSTU) on September 1. Russia makes use of experience of developed countries and a prove of it is reforms in education and science, Mintimer Shaimiev said.

On August 31, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev met with Director General of the Federal State Statistics Service Vladimir Sokolin in the Kazan Kremlin. The talks lasted for two hours. Present at the meeting were: Head of the RT President’s Administration Ekzam Gubaidullin, State Advisor to the RT President on social and economic issues Marat Safiullin, Chairman of the RT State Statistics Committee Valery Kandilov, RT First Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry – Director of the Centre for Economic and Social Researches Alevtina Kudryavtseva, et al.

August 27 saw an opening of Metro Cash&Carry store take place in Kazan. A broad range of only food products numbers 11,000 items. The store’s clients will find products of Kazan company “Kholod”, “Kazan meat-packing plant”, “Tatplodovoscshprom” and others. Talking at the opening ceremony, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev marked that the last years saw the development of good friendly relations of Germany and Russia. Today’s event is evidence. Today, Tatarstan works for bringing the living standard to the European level.

On August 27, Tatarstan president Mintimer Shaimiev received the delegation of the Federal Republic of Germany, headed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Russia Dr. Hans-Friedrich von Ploetz. The parties discussed the Days of Germany in Tatarstan and exchanged opinions on development of cultural and languages interaction.
