Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev took part in the celebrations, organised on the occasion of the Day of Knowledge by Kazan Technological University in the Basket Hall. It was for the first time that the only institute of higher education organised such grandiose festivities and it was attended by top officials of the republic. Meanwhile, it is one of the best universities of the republic and Russia and deserves by right this attention.

Today, higher educational institutions have to prepare specialists of tomorrow, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev said at the enlarged meeting of the academic council of Kazan State Technological University (KSTU) on September 1. Russia makes use of experience of developed countries and a prove of it is reforms in education and science, Mintimer Shaimiev said.

On August 31, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev met with Director General of the Federal State Statistics Service Vladimir Sokolin in the Kazan Kremlin. The talks lasted for two hours. On August 27, Tatarstan president Mintimer Shaimiev received the delegation of the Federal Republic of Germany, headed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Russia Dr. Hans-Friedrich von Ploetz. The parties discussed the Days of Germany in Tatarstan and exchanged opinions on development of cultural and languages interaction.

On August 26, President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev met with Chairman of the Board of the Russian Pension Fund Gennady Batanov. According to Mintimer Sahimiev, the main task for the organisations of social protection is provision of full account of citizens subject to pensions and other payments. The most important is to make no mistakes and not to forget anyone, the President said. Social support has always been paid due attention, and now, in the light of reforming the system of privileges, the pension organisations face new tasks.

On August 26, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev received the best grain-growers from Nurlatsky district, Tatarstan, who according to the harvesting results of 2004 provided the total amount of grain of 188,251 tons with a record yield of 50.1 centner per hectare. As of August 25, the following estimates refer to crop yields: wheat – 28800 tons, barley – 17200 tons, rye – 4126 tons. For Tatarstan’s conditions and Russian agriculture in the whole, this achievement has no parallels in history, Mintimer Shaimiev said.

On August 25, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev received the delegation of the German company Voith, led by the Chairman of the Board, member of the board of Voith AG, Peter Edelmann. I would like to note, said the President of the republic, that we possess good experience in stable cooperation with the Federal Republic of Germany. It mostly refers to the oil and petrochemical branches, and we have been working with Voith for ten years.

August 25 saw a traditional meeting commemorating the 60th Anniversary of death of the great Tatar poet Musa Jalil and his brother-in-arms executed in 1944 by fascists. he meeting was held in First of May Square. On August 24, after the meeting devoted to reconstruction of the Theatre of Opera and Ballet of Kazan, President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev made a number of important statements.
There is a widespread opinion that Tatarstan is allotted a lot of money from the federal centre to celebrate the millenium of Kazan. In fact, Mintimer Shaimiev said, the federal Programme of the social and economic development of Tatarstan had been approved before the decision about financing the celebrations in the Tatarstan capital was made.
