July, 17 the first session of the Commission under the President of the Russian Federation on differentiation of powers between all levels of authority was held. The President of Russia Vladimir Putin conducted the session, the President of Tatarstan Minmtimer Shaimiev heading a working group on development of the appropriate Concept took part in its work.

Roughly July, 17 will pass the first session of the Commission on differentiation of powers between the federal centre and regions of the Russian Federation, told the President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev in interview to "Tatar - Inform" Agency. The session will pass under presidency of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

On July 12, the Government of the Russian Federation approved the federal targeted program "Socio-economic development of the Republic of Tatarstan up to 2006".
Commenting upon the results of the meeting, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev marked that the program had been preliminarily coordinated and approved by all federal ministries and supported by all members of the Government at the meeting.
On the eve of the meeting, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev and Prime Minister Rustam Minnikhanov met with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov for a final exchange of opinions and coordination of positions.

Industrial production in Tatarstan for the first six months of 2001 has made 101,6 bln rubles or 107,3% in year-on-year terms. On the whole, republic is able to support progressive growth of commercial output. Actual figures even leave behind the indexes incorporated in this year's budget.

Tatarstan President M.Shaimiev does not support the importation of nuclear waste to Russia and thinks that the Federation Council should consider the law on importation of nuclear waste "without fail". "Deciding such a key problem, we necessarily have to consider an opinion of the upper chamber," he told the Interfax. "This is my civil position and I consider waste only as waste with all the implications."
Member of the Federation Council, Tatarstan State Council Chairman Farid Mukhametshin also expressed his view. He reminded that the Tatarstan parliament and other authorities were against this law and sent their appeal to the Russian President, Government and both chambers of the Federal Assembly.

The Russian President V.Putin's Decree of May 26 set up a commission to work out proposals on differentiation of authorities between federal, regional and local governments. Head of the commission D.Kozak informed that it would consist of 22 persons, including Tatarstan President M.Shaimiev. By June 1, 2002 the commission must submit its proposals on reforming federal structure to the Russian President.
