The President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Mintimer Shaimiev, congratulated Rashid Sunayev, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, member of honour of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, senior staff scientist of the Institute of space research and head of the largest Russian school for high-energy astrophysics, who was awarded Crafoord Prize 2008.

January 15, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev met with Tatar singer Alfia Avzalova at the Kazan Kremlin. The head of the republic congratulated the legendary singer on her 75th anniversary. He presented her with the highest award of Tatarstan – the order for “Services to the Republic of Tatarstan”.
January 14, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Mintimer Shaimiev, signed the law of the Republic of Tatarstan “On introduction of amendments to article 13 of the Law of the Republic of Tatarstan “On veterinary medicine in the Republic of Tatarstan”.
President of the Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev received a telegram of condolence from Murtaza Rakhimov, the President of the Republic of Bashkortostan. “The news of the tragic accident – the explosion in the block of flats in Kazan on January 9 that left several people dead – filled our hearts with pain. Please allow me to express my heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those who suffered".
Consequences of a house collapse in Kazan, which happened supposedly due to explosion of city gas, will be removed in minimally short period of time. Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev informed about it after his visit to the place of the accident this morning.
On January 9 Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev signed the Law “On making changes in the Law of the Republic of Tatarstan “On local government in the Republic of Tatarstan”.
